Hey. I have a Belkin router. I go into my internet browser and type 192.168.2.1. I click on Virtual Servers, then enter the information for my BitTorrent. I make sure it's got all the correct settings so please don't post with stuff like make sure it's TCP/UDP. The only setting that may not be correct is the IP thingie, in which case if it is not then please tell me. So I click OK and go into BitTorrent, then I check if the port is open and... no, it's not. This is the same for every single port I have ever tried to open. If anybody solves my problem then I'll give best answer with 10 points! :D!

What do you think i should do?

Heres what ive done so far in the theory but im told its not right can anyone help?

I have been hired to improve the communications and networking facilities of a local computer sales and repair shop in Sligo. The shop is a well known and popular business that provides technical support to a number of large companies in Sligo town. They also have a shop where they sell computers, computer accessories and also computer games. The building is made up of three floors.


Preliminary Site Inspection

Ground Floor
• Two Rooms
Sales
Computer Room (MDF)
The ground floor is mainly used for sales. There is only one computer on this floor. In the rear small room there is an MDF.

First Floor
• Two Rooms
Repairs
Store Room

This floor is used for repairs. Everything from repairing laptops, pc’s and printers, reformatting and reinstalling operating systems, updating and upgrading machines, putting in RAM, hard drives, different processors and changing damaged parts, etc, will be done here, all the pc’s that are fixed are stored here. There is only one access point in the repairs room and one LDF. The store room has all the store stock in it.

Second Floor
• Two Rooms
Office (All Staff)
Office (Currently unused)
IDF
One room will be used by payroll staff and will contain two PC’s. The manager will also have his own personal PC in this room. The third room is where the IDF is stored. Directly below this room is the repairs room which contains the IDF.

Basic setup of Main Distribution Facilities (MDF) and Intermediate Distribution Facilities (IDF)
All any company needs is one MDF. It must be beside the Point of Presence (POP) - where the internet provider (Eircom, etc) has set up access. In this company’s case, it will be set up on the first floor of the building. There will be a minimum of one IDF per floor. An example of where more than one IDF per floor would be needed is if a PC is more than 100 Metres away from the IDF.
Each switch is connected with two TBASE1000 but only one of them is used for the connection as the other one is only there to provide a backup. You must route the cables in different directions because if there is building work, digging, etc, being done the wire could be damaged and if the two wires were in the same place then both wires would be damaged leaving the backup useless.
The MDF has routers, switches and enterprise servers. The IDF has switches and work group servers (Word Processing, Print Servers and File Sharing). We will use Gigabyte Internet to connect up the main server, as this will make access to the server much quicker.

Future Requirements
Ground Floor:
I want to expand the access points on the floor for two or three display machines. In the other room, I want to include an MDF and also an enterprise server.
First Floor:
I want to upgrade this floor to have eight points (two per engineer). The reason for this is to provide a backup access point so that in the event of one of the connections breaking; they will have a spare one. If in future more engineers are employed, additional access points will already be in place meaning no additional installation will be required. There will also be a work group server added in here. All the stock and repairs will be in two rooms rather than one room. There will be one PC in the store room to track stock, repairs, etc.

Second Floor:
I would like to add another PC for the payroll staff. I want to upgrade the unused office and turn it into the manager’s office. It is necessary for the manager to have his own office, separate from the other staff to allow him privacy when dealing with company issues or any personnel related queries. All we need is one access point in this room. There will also be a work group server on this floor.

The scalability of the network must be quite large so that it can grow without any major changes to the design being needed. For example, if we have fifty users, we need to make sure that the scalability is 200% so that more users can be added in future as the company expands.
We must also have good adaptability of the network as today we might only be sending a data file but in the future we will more than likely want to send video links, etc.
We will need to improve our internet range and abilities such as, remote access to other PC’s. So if a customer with internet access calls us with an issue, we can connect remotely and solve the problem there and then.
In future if the company expands, I would like to add another building but would like to keep the network within one.
I also want to set up a WAN so that if the boss wants to work from home he can access all the information he needs from his own pc.
I am looking into using Skype phones in the business for a low cost communication option, to try to save money for the company due to the recession that is ongoing at the moment.

hi i live in england and am at high school, for a joke me and some friends hacked our class mates account and sent out some e-mails, he told the teachers and got it back from hotmail, and its all got to big to tell him it was a joke, now he's saying he's gonna get the ip address of the one that hacked him and find out who it was and mayb go to the police, i was was wondering can he find out my home address from my ip, i know your ip address links back to ur provider server but could he then get my address from that? would my internet provider give him that information, would the police do somthing about this as i never actually did anything i just sent 2 e-mails

They ask for incoming and outgoing servers, ex. pop3, and I don't know where to look for that information. If it helps, I am in Calgary; have cable internet connection and I'm using the same email info that I had prior to reinstall. Thanks for any help you can offer. I'm frustrated beyond belief; will have to meditate for days to get over all of this computer time!

I have a Nintendo DS Lite and I'm trying to connect it to the Nintendo WiFi Connection for Animal Crossing: Wild World. I used to connect all the time when I had an old Netgear router. Then my family got Verizon FiOS installed and we now have the Actiontec MI424WR wireless router. I entered all of our information automatically (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS server, etc) but I keep getting the same error.

I went to the Nintendo WiFi website but it barely helped. I changed the IP address to ten more then it was (the last two numbers were 44 so I changed them to 54 as it was suggested) but nothing happened. I also allowed the ports it said to on the firewall.

Nothing is working! Is the router simply incompatible? Is my firewall blocking my DS from connecting? Please help!

I'm somewhat tech savvy, but I'm a little confused about DHCP servers and the relationship to DNS servers. I have a linksys WRT54G with dd-wrt firmware on it and it works great. Occasionally (once a year?) I have issues with DNS servers changing from my Internet provider (comcast cable) and have to update the entries in the setup and otherwise fiddle with things till they work. I'd like to avoid this, since after a year passes I always forget what I did the previous time.

If I understand correctly, my router uses DHCP to get an IP address, DNS, etc, from the cable modem. This information is always up-to-date provide it power-cycles occasionally which it does.

Now I also have the option of running a DHCP server from the router as well, which is a little confusing. How can I enable this, but not specify manually the 3 "Static DNS 1,2,3" entries in the table?

It allows me to assign them all to 0.0.0.0, but does this mean something special like "get them from the modem automatically" or something bad like "we won't have a DNS at all"?

I would like for the computers connecting to my router (via WiFi and ethernet) to always get the latest DNS that my provider gives me, but I can't do that if I statically assign them manually in the setup.

To confuse things, I do use a static IP assignment for one particular computer assigned by the router via MAC address, but does using this option require static DNS entries to be set on the router DHCP server?

I have the free version of AVG Anti Virus, and right now it says I am not fully protected. So I tried to update, which always works....Till Now. It says, "Invalid Update Control CTF File".... What the heck does that mean?
Anyway I went to their website and clicked on support, and the first troubleshoot on the page was for the "invalid update contrl ctf file" So I figured great, it will help me get out of this jam.... Here's what it said to do.......
If you receive the "Invalid update control CTF file" message during AVG update, most probably the update control files are corrupted. In this case it is necessary to delete these files. During a next attempt to update AVG, new control files should be downloaded and update process should be completed without any difficulties. Please kindly follow these steps to delete mentioned control files:

Run the AVG user interface (double-click the AVG 8.0 icon on your desktop).
Open the Tools -> Advanced Settings... menu.
Navigate to the Manage tab in the Update branch.
Press the Delete temporary update files button.
Try to update AVG.
If the issue persists, then please follow steps below:

Your Internet settings are not correct

Even if your Internet connection is working correctly, incorrect DNS servers may be filled in, affecting AVG update. This can be caused e.g. by some virus that was previously on your computer.

Open menu Start -> (Settings) -> Control Panel.
Double-click on Network connections.
Right-click on the connection you are using and choose Properties.
Double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item on the General tab.
Please check (and modify if necessary) the settings of IP address and DNS servers according to your Internet Provider settings or choose the Obtain * * DNS server address automatically option.
Confirm the settings by clicking on the OK button.
Close the window.

Now in the first set of steps, it says to navagate to the manage tab in the update branch... But there is no manage tab... The only thing in the update branch is Proxy, Dial up, and URL!! No Manage. Does anyone know what I am talking about, and know how to fix this problem?

The problem I have is that when I click on the URL 'www.btyahoo.com/verify' I get the dreaded 404 message from Explorer (page not found). So..Yahoo has made its email 'safer' and tells me how to resolve it, but the solution does not work. Can anyone help with this?
